AsaCom distributors

Ericsson developed the AsaCom exchange, ASA-101, in 1982. It was at the time one of the first PABX exchanges using only digital telephone lines. ASA-101 was also one of the first products to implement voice activated calling and enabling “hands off” operation. A digital answer machine for every internal line was also built into the state-of-the-art exchange.

The Finnish electronics company Teleste bought the ASA-101 telephone exchange in 1990 and they continued the development of new functions. Customers could now pay using the built-in credit card reader. A substantial number of the telephones were sold to cruise ships. It was this maritime industry that continued to be the driving force behind many new features and functions, helping to make the ASA-101 a resounding success.

Teleste marine sold the ASA-101, now called AsaCom, to the Norwegian company Ring-Master in 1995. They introduced the products to the land base market and continued the success story for the maritime sector.

Since the merger with Zenitel and STENTOFON, developments have continued and customers like Heathrow Airport, Royal castles in Stockholm, Paris Metro and hundreds of vessels now use AsaCom.
