At the simplest level, we might think of James Bond. “M” pushes the button and his voice booms out in the anteroom: “Miss Moneypenny!”. This is a good example of what intercom is all about – immediate response to an urgent situation. “M” need not wait for Moneypenny to answer but simply bawls out his instructions: a telephone simply would not do, and that’s where STENTOFON’s intercom comes into the picture.
There are other ways in which an intercom differs from a telephone. For one, the sound can be made very much clearer. Telephones are restricted by inter-system connections, and no matter how good their quality, they inevitably muffle and distort the sound of a person’s voice. Intercom systems, being essentially private systems, may be designed to reproduce a more high fidelity (Hi-Fi) sound. Here, STENTOFON prides itself, giving arguably the best voice reproduction available on the market. The difference is more than just aesthetic: whether called out by a paramedic, a firefighter, a corrections officer, or a ship captain, clearly heard instructions are much easier to follow and can sometimes mean the difference between life and death.
