Alarm systems at schools necessary for securing campuses in Norway

In addition to several proactive measures, one of the suggested infrastructural actions suggested is to install Alarm and Communication System to reduce casualties. In Oslo, the capital of Norway, politicians and school administrations have already started the job.

Zenitel commends the school administration and politicians in Oslo, who already set aside 10 million Euros for this last year and already have started to install Vingtor-Stentofon Alarm and Communication systems at Schools in Norway’s capital. Together with our partner Ascom we have started installing these systems and more will come, until the goal of installing these systems at over 70 schools in Norway’s capital is reached in 2017.

This scenario referenced in the report from the Directorate, provides a good explanation for why such systems should be installed to protect teachers and students.

Shortly after the shooting started in Winnenden, Germany, the head of school alerted with a designated code over the PA-system. When the teachers heard the code, they locked down the classrooms and barricaded the doors. If the doors had remained unlocked and the students were still sitting at their desks, it is assumed that the killer would have succeeded in taking far more lives than he did. Only minutes after the shootings started, the mobile networked crashed. It was not dimensioned for the large amount of calls from students in need of help, calling at the same time.
