DR. Fridtjof Nansen

Cutting-edge Norwegian design

The new research vessel was initiated by the Norwegian Parliament in 2012. The vessel is designed by the Norwegian company Skipsteknisk and built in Spain by the shipyard Astilleros Gondan.

DR. Fridtjof Nansen.pictureDR. Fridtjof Nansen is a fine example of cutting edge Norwegian design. It can accommodate 45 people and has 7 laboratories onboard.

Tour around the vessel

The crew and vessel spent the first month together in their hometown of Bergen, situated in Western Norway. They used this time to finalize everything and prepare for their journey.

On their way to the coast of Africa, they made a stop in Horten, giving the opportunity for Zenitel employeers to go onboard for a tour to see our equipment. Captain Aron Håpoldøy showed us around and was clearly proud of the new vessel.

Lillian Helene Aas, Project Engineer was one of the Zenitellers who took the tour. She commented:

“We got a very interesting tour, we started at the bridge and worked our way all the way down to the engine room. This is the first time I’ve seen so much of our equipment. I saw IP Flush, IP Master, Turbine TFIE-1, PA-panels, Loudspeakers, Analog DECT, Master Clock and our VSP. “

She continued: “It was a very nice vessel, and the cables had been laid very neatly and properly. It was fun to see the bridge, control room, all the large machines in the engine room equipped with our products. I wouldn’t mind going for a test run with this vessel.“
