BW Tatiana Retrofit with Exigo and AlphaCom

Zenitel recently completed a full retrofit on the internal communication systems onboard BW Tatiana. BW Tatiana has become a part of Energía del Pacífico’s Acajutla FSRU project. Supplying a clean and efficient 378MW combined-cycle generation plant. It has all chances to become the lowest-cost thermal generator in the country, that supplies 30% of total demand and reducing energy imports from 25% to around 5% in 2023.

As well as making electricity more affordable, the project will displace oil-based energy generation. As a result, this promises to reduce El Salvador’s annual carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 376,000 tons each year. This is the equivalent of taking more than 70,000 vehicles off the road.

About BW Tatiana

BW Tatiana is an LNG carrier that was built in 2002 by Shell and converted to floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) later in 2020. At present, it has a 280 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) capacity and a 137,000m3 storage capacity. The company aims to support the transition to a lower-carbon society.

BW Group is well-known for providing floating solutions for LNG. The company operates with a fleet of 30 LNG carriers and FSRUs and is constantly searching for new solutions to serve its customers better. Aiming to support the green policy, it has made investments in wind, solar, biofuels, and water treatment.

Zenitel Retrofit

Exigo is Zenitel’s well-known IP PAGA system that is highly suitable for the energy and maritime markets. Therefore, this system is now deployed onboard BW Tatiana. Regardless of the environment, it offers high-end audio secure distribution. The entire solution consists of a product range of explosion-proof access panels, line-end transponders, network amplifiers, and system controllers. Exigo has the potential to meet all the demands of the general alarm and public address system. It is a scalable and redundant system that offers several standard and optional features that are ideal for offshore installations and maritime security.

The ICX-AlphaCom is a forward-thinking platform that integrates seamlessly into other onboard communication and safety applications. This intercom system meets all industry standards and has a native, easy-to-use API. It comes with built-in cyber security and IP Talkback functionality. It also has streamlined and unified management. When we talk about scalability, the system comes with a state-of-the-art processing capacity, and each of its nodes can support up to 552 IC devices.

One of the main retrofit advantages of both the Exigo and AlphaCom system is redundancy in different unpredictable situations. Because of its high availability and fault tolerance, the system will work with maximum uptime during:

  • system-level failures.
  • environment-level failures (fire, flooding, etc.).
  • planned outage for system maintenance and upgrades.

Seamless switch-over to emergency power supply. If rebooting is necessary there  is very short downtime, well within the international maritime requirements as required in SOLAS.
