Stentofon Turbine at E-CO facility

Vingtor-Stentofon Turbine to silence the noise of water turbines at E-CO hydropower plant

The Vingtor-Stentofon SIP Turbine will be put to the test, mastering the extreme sounds and background noise in E-CO Energy’s hydropower plants. The project also features an advanced serverless redundancy solution.

E-CO has ordered a Vingtor-Stentofon solution including the SIP Turbine and SIP heavy duty equipment for installation on their hydropower plants. The Vingtor-Stentofon products will go through a test phase to make sure that the products fulfill E-CO’s requirements.

E-CO Energy is one of Norway’s leading energy suppliers. Their core business is in the ownership, operation and development of hydropower plants. As the second largest hydropower producer E-CO covers the power demand of approx. 500 000 households.

E-CO already has an exciting Avaya IPBX solution from Vingtor-Stentofon partner IPnett and wanted to complement this solution with Vingtor-Stentofon  SIP equipment. IPnett delivers communication and network solutions. Vingtor-Stentofon offer a solution based on good flexibility. Vingtor-Stentofon is an Avaya Devconnect partner, which makes integration seamless and easy. The Vingtor-Stentofon Flowire technology made for transferring Ethernet signals on two-wire cables made it possible for E-CO to keep their existing two-wire cabling system while adding SIP-stations. The SIP equipment will be used as end points directly connected to E-CO’s Avaya IPBX server.

− E-CO’s previous phone system is old and it is time to upgrade it. We wanted to try out Vingtor-Stentofon' s products because they are solid and offer a stand-alone solution, said Ola Tore Eggen, Technical Advisor, Information and Communication Technology at E-CO.

Mastering extreme noise

The modern hydropower plants are installed inside mountains and consist of aggregates composed by generators and turbines. The powerful machines and the large amounts of water cause loud sounds and background noise. To make it possible for the operators to use the intercom system it is essential to block this sound out of the conversation. In any communication, but especially in an emergency situation, clear and understandable speech and sound is crucial. For this reason E-CO chose to try the Vingtor-Stentofon  Turbine SIP. Vingtor-Stentofon SIP Turbine provide extremely good sound quality and noise cancellation functions that meet the requirements E-CO’s environments demands.

− During the test phase we have seen the strength of Vingtor-Stentofon Turbine SIP’s functionalities. The sound quality was one of the functionalities that impressed us. E-CO’s hydropower plants are exposed to extreme noise. The Vingtor-Stentofon  Turbine SIP’s sound quality will benefit us in the internal communication, said Eggen.

Giving E-CO high Pulse

Zenitels new backup solution with Pulse SIP modus is a custom development for the E-CO  project. For the hydropower installation project, Zenitel developed a redundant SIP solution that utilizes the Pulse system as a back-up to prevent error or down time at the Avaya control panel. The Pulse SIP solution is not connected to the systems server, but has its own server integrated into one of its devices. This makes it possible to communicate internally inside the plants even if the server stops working or the connection to the server is cut off. The E-CO project is the first project worldwide that makes use of this functionality.
