Zenitel Italy provides communication possibilities for children in intensive care
Equipment customized sterile areas
In this intensive care unit in Sicily, each patient has a medical monitor with touch screen, which has an integrated PC and a pneumatic arm with a VESA plate hanging from the ceiling. The patient’s monitor is equipped with Vingtor-Stentofon Softclient, Video Matrix Milestone, AXIS 1.3-megapixel IP Camera and USB headset with a microphone.
The relatives have the same medical monitor to that of the patient, an AXIS 1.3-megapixel IP Camera and an IP Master Station with a Vingtor-Stentofon handset. This equipment makes it possible for the hospitalized children to see and communicate with their family even though they must stay in sterile areas.
Cooperation with head nurse
The nurse controls the PC with Milestone Professional Video Server and IP Desktop Master Station with handset.
The relatives make a call pushing a DAK to start a video-conversation with the patient. The nurse checks on the patient and considers if they are able to carry out the video-call. If so, the nurse will transfer a DAK with both video and audio to the patient. The two sides are now communicating.
Once the video-call is over, the relatives will push the C button over the Intercom station to close all the involved programs while the nurse inside the sterile area will return the monitor to the position above the patient’s bed.
No API or added software needed
All this is possible because the integration between Milestone and Vingtor-Stentofon does not require any API or added software, only programming the Event Handler.
The solution is the first of its kind in Italy and has attracted positive interest from other hospitals.
