Zenitel Connect Achieves DNV Type Approval
Zenitel Connect has achieved DNV Type Approval, marking another important milestone for Zenitel's communication platform for maritime and offshore applications.
The approval confirms that the platform meets DNV's requirements for installation on classed vessels, providing shipowners, system integrators and shipyards with a documented and approved solution for operational communication.
A communication platform designed for integration
Modern vessels rely on a wide range of communication systems, each serving a specific operational purpose. Intercom, operational telephony, Public Address & General Alarm (PAGA), radio communication and other critical systems often have their own performance requirements, approvals and cyber security considerations.
Zenitel Connect is designed to simplify the management and operation of these communication systems through a common platform for configuration, monitoring and user operation. Rather than replacing dedicated systems, it enables secure integration where appropriate while allowing individual systems to maintain their own functionality, certifications and cyber security boundaries.
Its modular architecture allows solutions to scale from smaller vessel installations to large and complex projects, making it suitable for both newbuild and retrofit applications.
Built for modern maritime operations
Operational communication is essential across every part of a vessel—from the bridge and engine room to accommodation spaces, cargo handling areas and technical control rooms. As communication requirements continue to evolve, operators increasingly need solutions that are easier to deploy, manage and expand over time.
The DNV Type Approval demonstrates that Zenitel Connect has successfully completed the required testing and verification for installation on DNV-classed vessels. The approval covers the communication platform together with a comprehensive range of supported Zenitel intercom stations, telephones, access panels, network components and integrated communication equipment.
Developed with security by design
Cyber security has become an integral part of modern maritime system design, particularly as vessels increasingly rely on interconnected operational technology.
Zenitel Connect has been developed following security-by-design principles, supporting secure deployment, controlled system access and protected communication between connected components.
The latest software release, Zenitel Connect v1.10.0, introduces further enhancements, including improvements to device credential management, communication handling and operational control in demanding environments, together with compatibility improvements across the platform.
The platform is also progressing through the DNV Cyber Security Type Approval process. All required documentation has been submitted and is currently under review by DNV. Due to the significant number of cyber certification applications currently being processed, completion is expected during Q4 2026, subject to DNV's final approval.

Scalable by design
Whether deployed on a smaller offshore support vessel or a large passenger ship, Zenitel Connect provides a scalable communication platform that can grow alongside operational requirements.
By centralizing system configuration, monitoring and day-to-day operation, the platform helps reduce operational complexity while allowing individual communication systems to evolve independently as new technologies, approvals and customer requirements emerge.
