Zenitel Secures Contract to Upgrade Irish Rail’s Nationwide Public Address Systems
Zenitel has been awarded a contract by Irish Rail to supply and provide third-line maintenance for the Public Address (PA) systems across its national rail network. The agreement includes the rollout of new amplification equipment at all 147 Iarnród Éireann Stations with the capacity to include Iarnród Éireann’s expected network expansion over the coming years.
As a specialist in audio and critical communications, Zenitel brings extensive knowledge and proven experience to the project, with a strong track record of delivering PA systems for major transport and critical infrastructure projects worldwide. This expertise was a key factor in Irish Rail’s decision, ensuring the solution meets the demanding technical and operational requirements of its stations.
The contract further strengthens Zenitel’s position as a trusted provider of critical communications solutions, building on established partnerships with National Rail and ScotRail in the UK, as well as numerous mainline, metro, and light rail customers globally. Under the agreement, Zenitel will supply hardware alongside design and integration services, ensuring a smooth transition to the new system while minimising disruption to rail operations.
Zenitel’s VAIA amplifier, specifically designed for typical rail applications will play a central role in the rollout, enabling simple and cost-effective deployment. This scalable, network-based voice alarm and public address platform integrates seamlessly with station systems to deliver clear, prioritised announcements for both day-to-day operations and emergency situations. The solution ensures high levels of speech intelligibility across stations, concourses, and trains.
With VAIA in place, the new Irish Rail PA system is expected to deliver long-term reliability, with a minimum system life of 10 years. The platform has also been designed with sustainability and cybersecurity in mind, ensuring it remains secure and future-ready.
