PA integration success: Zenitel PAVA and AviaVox elevate airport efficiency
Zenitel is proud to announce another successful deployment of its VIPA-API —an advanced IP-based interface for public voice alarm (PAVA) systems. The latest integration is with AviaVox, a global leader in intelligent airport announcements, representing a key milestone in delivering smart, integrated audio solutions for modern airports.

Based in the Netherlands, AviaVox systems are used by over 60 airports worldwide including London Heathrow. Supporting more than 130 airlines and reaching 750 million passengers a year in over 35 languages, the company’s technology helps to improve boarding efficiency, reduce missed connections and minimize unnecessary announcements.
With a proven track record in airports worldwide, integrating with Zenitel’s powerful PAVA infrastructure was a natural next step. “We’re proud to support innovative partners like AviaVox in harnessing the full potential of our PAVA system,” says Henry Rawlins, Vice President of Marketing and Product at Zenitel. “Together we are driving the evolution of smart, integrated airport communication systems.”
AviaVox leverages the secure connectivity, zone monitoring, status monitoring and priority management features of Zenitel’s PAVA system to deliver context-aware announcements exactly when and where they’re needed. The system also helps with real-time messaging deployment and dynamic streamed content delivery, ensuring a smooth delivery of announcements and a seamless workflow.

Zenitel’s VIPA (Voice over Public Address) protocol is exposed via the VIPA-API interface, which is available for both Windows and Ubuntu Linux environments. The interface offers powerful features such as comprehensive developer documentation, diagnostic tools for real-time validation and troubleshooting, plus low-latency, low-bandwidth audio streaming. This capable interface integrates seamlessly into the Zenitel PAVA system, making it ideal for high-demand environments such as airports, where hundreds of simultaneous, context-aware announcements must be delivered across multiple zones and terminals.
A recent success story is Birmingham Airport where a tailored Zenitel-AviaVox integration was deployed, with a second rollout scheduled at a major UK airport hub for early 2026.
“The integration with Zenitel’s VIPA-API was developed to meet the specific operational and technical requirements of Birmingham Airport,” says Bob Jooren, Sr. Project Manager at Avia-Vox. “The VIPA-API offers the flexibility and performance needed to deliver high-quality, context-aware announcements in dynamic airport environments. While tailored for Birmingham Airport, this solution is designed to scale—bringing similar benefits to other airports looking to enhance communication, efficiency, and the overall passenger experience”.
In addition to enhancing the passenger experience, these improvements lead to operational savings, improved passenger compliance and an optimized use of resources. Together with AviaVox , Zenitel are ensuring that airports around the world are safe, efficient and welcoming environments for passengers.
